If you’re using a niche dating website, your online dating profile may be for sale or possibly, it has already been sold. Unfortunately, you may have unknowingly agreed to the transaction. It’s a clause deeply buried in the terms of service that allows them to share your profile with “Affiliate” sites. This article from Betabeat explains how this practice is executed and by whom.

Rest assured, if your profile is on one of the larger reputable sites such as Match, Plenty of FishSpark.com or OKCupid it is most likely secure. One seller did however elude he has some large, established sites in his database of buyers.  To be safe, read the “fine print” on your Internet Dating Site of choice.

It’s not difficult to figure out what motivates this egregious behavior; of course it’s money. It is typically the newer sites buying profiles to beef up their membership numbers.  Whether they are a free or paid subscription site, they must have a significant database of profiles to attract new users.

It’s disappointing; I think niche sites are great for meeting someone to share your interests, activities or religious beliefs. There are sites for just about everyone, Equestrian, ChristiansPets Lovers, Bikers and many more.  It’s sad to think a horse lover’s profile may land on a foot fetish site. Imagine the confusion… “This guy wants to put a “hoof” in his mouth? Now, I’ve seen it all!”
